Rehabilitation and Implementation of Educational Reforms in Plantation Schools
In the 1990s, Sida provided support to the Government of Sri Lanka to build 400 schools to Tamil children living in tea plantation farms. As follow-up support, Sida granted 5.3 million EUR as a soft loan to the government of Sri Lanka for the adaptation of the plantations schools to the new education programme. In connection to this, an extensive school maintenance programme was to be established. SIPU was contracted to provide support to the Project Implementation Unit in terms of monitoring and follow-up of the project.
